Bollard Load Testing (BLT) ®
The Bollard Load Testing equipment is the result of over two years research, development and testing by our marine engineering specialists who have designed a fully calibrated, and easily deployable way of testing the strength of marine bollards.
The equipment is fully transportable and uses a powerful hydraulic cylinder and custom designed dyneema to recreate more than 100 tonnes of ‘pull’. The breakthrough replaces the traditional method of a tug pulling against the bollard, a method that has previously caused damage to vessels and can be dangerous to the people involved.
The development of the equipment is the result of our local Port of Tyne seeking a solution to test the integrity and safety of their quayside bollards when previous enquiries elsewhere had not provided anything fit for purpose.
The bollard load testing equipment has been designed to surpass client requirements and the in-house manufacture of Patent Pending equipment is now providing a cost effective solution where nothing was available to meet the need.
We are proud that the manufacture of the equipment is North East of England based which is great for our region and the market for this equipment and service is global.
Bollard Load Testing Ltd is a wholly-owned and financed subsidiary of Tyne and Wear Marine Ltd (TWM), and began formal trading on 1st April 2015.
WHY CHOOSE BOLLARD LOAD TESTING LTD
Because there is simply nothing out there that meets the need for testing the integrity and safe working load of bollards. BLT has also set in place an infrastructure that supports a global market approach to roll-out the innovative solution of equipment and safe working method.

Port Technology does a Q&A with Jeff Main from Bollard Load Testing Ltd (BLT), discussing the importance of bollard load testing. The Bollard Load Testing equipment is the result of over two years research, development and testing by our marine engineering specialists who have designed a fully calibrated, and easily deployable way of testing the strength of marine bollards.
Jeff Main, Managing Director of BLT, here makes a convincing case for the testing of bollards in ports. As the size of ships increases, so do the dangers, unless bollards are correctly monitored
